Councillors welcome proposed Aldi application
Councillors have welcomed the news that Aldi are proposing a new supermarket on a site at Chartists Way, Morley. The proposal, which is going through the planning process, is focused on the Ravenheat site. Councillors have previously met with Aldi to discuss sites in the Morley area that could support a supermarket, with Chartists Way being one of the sites suggested.
Councillor Robert Finnigan said “The proposal is good news for Morley, especially after a similar proposal had to be withdrawn due to problems with the site. This is good news for local residents and I am also pleased that it would bring new jobs to the area. Aldi are known to provide well paid jobs and have an excellent record of employing local people. It will also offer an alternative supermarket for local residents, many of whom are on lower incomes. We know that Aldi have a commitment to support community projects and we look forward to discussing their support directly with them.”
